Viñales, located in the eastern province of Pinar del Rio, Cuba is one of the country's largest tobacco producers. These images, taken during late February document the start harvest time, just as the plants are ripening, and the initial leaves being harvested and hung in the tobacco barns.

This harvest season was also marked by the building of new barns, as all but one barn in the area surrounding Viñales had been destroyed in the 2008 hurricanes.
