These images are taken in the small coastal town of Gibara in Eastern Cuba. In 2008, over the course of a few short months, three hurricanes scoured the island, devastating crops and pummelling villages such as Gibara, flattening homes, and destroying infrastructure.

These images are taken in the small coastal town of Gibara in Eastern Cuba. In 2008, over the course of a few short months, three hurricanes scoured the island, devastating crops and pummelling villages such as Gibara, flattening homes, and destroying infrastructure.
Four months after the storms Gibara was still working to clean up the streets, and people still living out of home. The local school was back in business, but only by erecting military tents in the shells of it's classrooms. People I spoke to on the street told me that the expected that it take a full year before things would be back to normal, though likely much, much more.
